AGNITUM OUTPOST FIREWALL PRO 2.6 has resurrected the current installation of WINDOWS 98 SE on my homebuilt computer! After having a blitzkrieg of malicious spyware, Trojans, and other deleterious downloads infect my computer, in spite of a highly recommended firewall, I struggled for days to rid the system of the malware. Regardless of every attempt to dispense with the code that continuously re-installed itself, there seemed to be no hope. I un-installed the original firewall and installed another firewall that I had utilized previously. One day, after I had removed the original firewall, I was beginning an on-line session when a web page appeared on my screen informing me that as a precautionary measure, the “un-installed” firewall was preventing any information from flowing into, or out of my computer via the Internet. My web browser had been locked. I followed the instructions that were displayed on the web page that had hi-jacked my computer to no avail. The only method for alleviating the situation was for me to fax the firewall’s manufacturer with a plea for assistance.

Using another computer, I was able to locate a phone number by which the software manufacturer could be reached. I called and a technical support person, seemingly, helped me to completely remove the software from my computer. Some time later, the exact same web page hi-jacked my computer again! This means that although the support person had given me instructions that led me to believe that there were no more entries in my computer from that software, there were! We engaged upon another session of seek and remove. It was suggested that I re-install the software so that it could be removed again. Of course, I refused. During the last part of the conversation, I just happened to check the “START UP.” folder in the System Configuration File to find the exact line of code that would again cause the lock up of my computer. I was infuriated! So, again, we embarked on locating and deleting all files that were associated with this software package.

Once more, I set out to find a firewall that would instill a sense of security that was supported by performance. AGNITUM’S OUTPOST FIREWALL PRO is that firewall.

The first thing that I noticed after having installed OUTPOST FIREWALL PRO was the overall stability of my entire system seemed to increase. In other words, my computer seemed to work better with OUTPOST than without it! So, there was an instantaneous and complete feeling of security… I felt as though my system was protected from the incredibly malicious code that has become part and parcel of the current Internet experience. As erudite as you may be about information technology, or not, OUTPOST will protect your computer system as though you knew all that you need to know.

I like the fact that OUTPOST is a complete incarnation of a firewall that takes into account the manner in which the industry has evolved. Although it is probably a very complex system, it is not difficult to use. In fact, it is as easy as the user wishes it to be without losing any of its salient protective features. Although there are choices given during the installation process for experienced users, a virtually automatic install mode is available. The use of the firewall is extremely straightforward and, apparently, it detects and reports every request for Internet access that is executed on your system. So far, there has been only smooth surfing of the ‘Net since I installed OUTPOST. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if it continues as such. I expect that it will.
